Vancouver Asian Film Festival kicks off with Stay the Night featuring Burnaby’s Andrea Bang
She is best known for playing Janet Kim in Kim’s Convenience and has also appeared in A Million Little Things, Fresh, and Running with Violet.
Directed by Renuka Jeyapalan, Stay the Night tells the story of Grace, played by Andrea, who is an ambitious and chronically single young professional. A failed work opportunity prompts Grace to pursue a one night stand with a stranger, who turns out to be an on-the-outs professional athlete in town with a problem of his own. Together they form a connection by helping each other.
In addition to Stay the Night, Andrea is set to appear in Surrender, a short film as part of The Human Condition: International Shorts Program. In Surrender, Andrea plays Naomi, who is a young Asian female wrestling with her past family trauma. As Naomi attempts to regain a sense of control, she is drawn back into the world of Blackjack after abstaining for 100 days.
Andrea has been proudly supporting the Vancouver Asian Film Festival for many years. She is passionate about elevating the voices and diversity of the Asian community. “I have been going to VAFF since I was young as I was just craving Asian representation. Thank you to VAFF for supporting Asian Canadian community for the past 26 years. Independent film making is not easy but we do it for the community, artistry, and because we love it,” said Andrea. “I am incredibly grateful to be part of the opening film spotlight and encourage everyone to come out to the festival to celebrate Asian representation in film.”
Get your tickets to the opening film spotlight Stay the Night on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. and The Human Condition: International Shorts Program.
