VAFF’s Mightiest Short Film Competition Returns With a Unique Twist
The Vancouver Film Festival (VAFF) is proud to bring back the Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon (MAMM) for its 16th year. The short filmmaking competition is open to participants from all across Canada (Canadian or Permanent Residents can lead a team from anywhere!).
MAMM is Vancouver’s only annual short filmmaking competition with a specific focus on diversity. The competition will award $500 to 8 teams in order to make their MAMM short, as well as in-kind support for the production.
For this competition MAMM will have 2 categories: 10-minute shorts and one-minute ultra shorts. The one-minute Ultra Shorts category will also go through an adjudication process based on a written pitch. Uniquely, you must respond to this year’s creative element: Past, Present and Possibilities.
Please note: Film production must follow WorkSafeBC health & safety protocols strictly, and each team must come up with their own COVID-19 Safety Plan for their teams with the help of the MAMM producing team.
This year’s MAMM’s director, Lynne Lee and creative producers are Mayumi Yoshida, Joshua Lam, Nach Dudsdeemaytha, Regina Leung, and Arnold Lim. This powerhouse team includes highly knowledgeable industry professionals who have written, produced, directed, and acted in various film projects.
There will also be a continuation of the successful MAMMentorship program from the previous years. The program is a series of one-on-one mentorship as well as group workshops via Zoom. These workshops will provide guidance from industry professionals. All completed films will receive a screening at the MAMM16 screening event, as well as at VAFF 2021 in November. Final films will be adjudicated by a panel of elite MAMM16 producers, and the top films in each category are chosen to win cash and in-kind prizes!
