Since the outbreak of COVID-19, there has been an increase in the incidents of racial attacks on Asian Canadians. The Asian Canadian community is greatly concerned that attacks will only escalate after self-isolation orders are lifted. It is so concerning that Asian elders are being warned not to leave their homes to stay safe.
VAFF’s Call to Action for our community is to stand up and to speak out against this violence and to support all the other organizations making actionable change. As part of VAFF’s online campaign to ‘#Elimin8hate’, the Festival is asking Filmmakers and the Public to make their own 60 second Public Service Announcement.
These videos should speak of personal experiences or on the following themes:
-
EMPOWER
-
EDUCATE
-
ELIMINATE Racism
The purpose of sharing these videos is to help the community to come together, to help victims know that they are not alone and to promote positive solutions to eliminate the negativity of racism.
