We are very excited and honoured to announce the two recipients of funding opportunity to develop their works for potential TV series production.
Congratulations to the selected 2022 Recipient Projects:
Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) with generous support from Bell Media is providing $15,000 in series development funding to assist talented Asian Canadian filmmakers and TV producers to create projects that raise the profile of Asians in Canada.
Asian Canadian filmmakers have the opportunity to develop their works for potential TV series production. VAFF hopes that these awarded projects will further establish Asian Canadians as talented and notable filmmakers and actors.
To support and maximize the quality of submissions from VAFF’s community of writers, there will be an Info. Session provided by Bell Media on Jan. 13, 2022 and mentorship “Ask Me Anything” sessions provided with industry professionals prior to the submission deadline. The first mentor session will feature Aaron Au from Brightlight Pictures. Date & Time: TBD
Project applications submitted by Feb 28, 2022 (11:59 PM) PST will be evaluated by VAFF for shortlisting. BELL MEDIA will select TWO recipients. Each recipient will receive up to $7,500 upon delivery of project development materials (outline, pilot draft 1 &2, bible, etc) according to an agreed upon schedule between the applicant, VAFF, and Bell Media.

Applicants should submit their applications as follows:

Step 2: Email the following required documents to development@vaff.org
Required Documents:
a) Applicant information: Resumes and bios of key creative team member(s)
b) 1-2 page document including pilot synopsis, lead character breakdowns, tone/theme, season overview
c) Submit ONE of the below items: (Please email us the viewing link & password (if available) to development@vaff.org)
The files should be named in the following format: seriestitle_applicantfullname
Please only submit the full document in pdf or Word files [pdf, doc, docx].
Note: Once submitted, applicants cannot change anything in their applications. Submit cautiously.

2. Applications may be submitted by Canadian independent producers who are individuals or co-ventures or by corporations or other entities controlled by the applicant.
3. Any resident of Canada can apply from anywhere in the country.
4. The ideal applicant is a beginner to intermediate-level filmmaker, but there are no requirements or limitations on the size of portfolio.
5. One entry only per each above-the-line applicant.
Projects may take the form for a development of TV Project:
Projects with any hate, political or religious propaganda will not be considered. Likewise, projects with a majority of the main Asian cast are the antagonists/villians will not be considered.
